| "My inspiration, or reason why I did these feats, is that I wanted to prove that anything in life ispossible. It really started when I was 40. At that time, people thought that when you're 40, you're over the hill. So, I wanted to prove that was not so. I wanted to call attention to my philosophy. Each time I did a feat, the spa and physical fitness businesses improved. People became motivated and encouraged to exercise. I wanted to inspire people to take care of themselves and have goals and challenges. When I was 40, I swam from Alcatraz to the mainland only handcuffed. But when I was 60, I wanted to prove that my philosophy worked and prove that I could do it, not only handcuffed, but also with my feet shackled towing a 1,000 lb. boat." |
