Fresh squeezed orange juice. You can't beat it.
But if you like it without the pulp, how do you get it?
Let's find out as Tommy Noel gets some familiar faces to try out the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer in this edition of 'Does it Really Work?'
Your hard working Channel 3 staff took a short break for a juice party. There are a lot of pieces to this thing. I counted at least eight parts that had to be put together.
"How many people does it take to get this thing assembled," asks Hasti Taghi.
After reading some contradictory instructions...
Mandy Ward reading from one set of directions: "...remove all stems."
Araksya Karapetyan reading from a different set: "...It says no, the stems contain vitamins and minerals."
We made our first concoction of strawberry, kiwi, and pineapple.
"Ooh look. It's pretty. Smells good too," says everyone.
We were all amazed at just how much juice we got from one strawberry. The extra gunk from the strawberry not needed for the juice is conveniently thrown in the back.
"That looks like salsa," says Hasti.
While we were all amazed at the juicing technique, the big question is how will it taste?
"That's actually really, really good," says Scott Dixon.
"That's really good," says Rick Montanez.
"Ooh yeah. That is really good" says Araksya and Hasti.
We experimented with other kinds of fruits and vegetables, including whole apples, grapes, and carrots. Carrots caused an issue as our pusher got stuck. And comments were made that the spout could be just a little longer to reduce splattering.
We're now on to cantaloupe and orange juice, and we broke the number one rule for 'Does it Really Work?' - reading all the directions.
"Ooh that's awful," says Scott.
Turns out we're supposed to peel the oranges. Well, we didn't. So we tried again without the peel, and the results were much better.
"Something's missing from this one. The rind?!" says Todd Kunz.
Bad orange juice aside, our Channel 3 employees are pleased with the juicer.
"It did a good job. I'm really impressed," says Araksya.
"It is very good and obviously very healthy for you," says Todd.
Turning to the Spud-o-Meter. Speaking of, has anyone tried to juice a potato?!
[All rate between a 3 1/2 and a 4 1/2.]
"I wouldn't want to clean that thing up. Tommy, it's all on you," says Hasti.
The juicer is dishwasher safe, so it's pretty easy to clean.
You can visit www.powerjuicer.com to order one, they cost about $100.
