Make your own sports drink!
January 22, 2013 in Health Information
If you run or exercise hard for an hour or more you need to be hydrating and replenishing your electrolytes to ensure your body doesn’t break down or cramp up.
While many people rely and use store bought sports drinks, I prefer to avoid some of the excess sugar, artificial sweeteners and artificial colors and flavorings found in some of them.
Here’s a homemade version that will save you money, skip some of the stuff you don’t want and give you what your body needs:
4 cups of plain coconut water (you can use plain water but I like the extra potassium that coconut water provides)
1/4 cup of orange juice or pineapple juice (made fresh with your Power Juicer)
1/4 cup of maple syrup or honey
1/4 tsp of salt
Make sure to stir or shake well and carry 8 - 16oz. with you during your workouts in a reusable water bottle.
