New to juicing? What to buy
January 25, 2013 in Juicing Tips
Whether you are using your Power Juicer for the first time or dusting it off after a few weeks of neglect, sometimes half the battle is knowing what to juice and then getting those ingredients.
Often, you’ll get to the produce aisle and be baffled to where to start!
Your list will vary depending upon your own needs and tastes but here’s a basic list:
Sweet stuff:
Apples
Pineapple - remember to remove rind and core
Berries - berries should be juiced last
Peaches - peaches and plums need to be removed of pits first
Plums
Oranges - peel first
Savory stuff:
Celery
Carrots - organic carrots do not have to be peeled
Beets
Ginger - peel ginger root before juicing
Green stuff:
Spinach
Romaine
Wheat Grass
By picking out just a few items on this list, you’ll be able to make some of the awesome recipes found on this website or even make up a few of your own. I personally like to mix and match from two or three ingredients from the lists.
For example, my favorite mid-afternoon pick-me-up used to be a cup of coffee, now it’s a juice that I created. I call it “Sweet and Spicy Carrot Juice.”
Here’s how I make it:
Sweet and Spicy Carrot Juice
2 apples
1 stalk of celery
2-4 carrots (depending on the size)
¼ inch of ginger (or more – I like ginger a lot)
Put it all in your juicer and voila.
