Happy and healthy Halloween treats

October 15, 2012 in Holiday Ideas, Power Juicer Kids

I am striving to provide a healthy lifestyle for myself and family. As such, I really am looking for ideas to move away from bringing excess candy into my home. Don’t get me wrong, an occasional treat is one thing but the last thing I need is bags and bags of candy in my home.

I loved the suggestions I found in this blog post from 100 Days of Real Food. The post is titled “20 Ways to do Halloween without candy!” It had some really great ideas in it.

For example you might give out:

  • Temporary tattoos or stickers
  • Toothbrushes
  • Fun little toy trinkets from a dollar store
  • Halloween-themed pencils
  • light-up glow sticks
  • mini-bottles of water decorated with orange and black ribbon

By the way, I love the tangerine idea in the picture above (Source). Decorating them as little pumpkins is adorable and you can juice the leftovers!!

And what about all that candy that comes back to your house with your kids? We have our son pick out seven pieces of candy to keep (one piece per day for one week) and then my husband takes the rest to work and puts it in the break-room for everyone at his office to share.

Do you plan on doing something different for Halloween this year?

Do you do anything creative (besides eat it!) with your left-over candy?
