Jack’s Immunoblast juice

February 14, 2013 in Jack LaLanne, Juicing Recipes

This was a favorite juice of Jack LaLanne and I’ve been sipping it all winter long. I’m pretty sure this is part of the reason why I haven’t caught the colds or flus that have been going around!

Immunoblast juice

3 strawberries

1 peeled orange

1 apple

1 apricot (pit removed)

3 broccoli florettes

3 cauliflower spears

juice all ingredients and enjoy!

(PS: sometimes I replace the apricot with a peach and that seems to work as well.)

Why you should juice ginger

January 29, 2013 in Health Information

My favorite go-to juice recipe is apple, carrot and ginger and I’ll usually throw in a few leafy greens or celery for good measure. But ginger really is the star in my book.

Besides being delicious ginger has several great health benefits including:

  • It could help prevent colon cancer
  • It’s a natural treatment for morning sickness
  • According to this article, it could be used to help treat ovarian cancer
  • It could help to reduce pain and inflamation
  • It may help to prevent colds and flus

New to juicing? What to buy

January 25, 2013 in Juicing Tips

Whether you are using your Power Juicer for the first time or dusting it off after a few weeks of neglect, sometimes half the battle is knowing what to juice and then getting those ingredients.

Often, you’ll get to the produce aisle and be baffled to where to start!

Your list will vary depending upon your own needs and tastes but here’s a basic list:

Sweet stuff:

Apples

Pineapple - remember to remove rind and core

Berries - berries should be juiced last

Peaches - peaches and plums need to be removed of pits first

Plums

Oranges - peel first

Savory stuff:

Celery

Carrots - organic carrots do not have to be peeled

Beets

Ginger - peel ginger root before juicing

Green stuff:

Spinach

Romaine

Wheat Grass

By picking out just a few items on this list, you’ll be able to make some of the awesome recipes found on this website or even make up a few of your own. I personally like to mix and match from two or three ingredients from the lists.

For example, my favorite mid-afternoon pick-me-up used to be a cup of coffee, now it’s a juice that I created. I call it “Sweet and Spicy Carrot Juice.”

Here’s how I make it:

Sweet and Spicy Carrot Juice

2 apples

1 stalk of celery

2-4 carrots (depending on the size)

¼ inch of ginger (or more – I like ginger a lot)

Put it all in your juicer and voila.

Make your own sports drink!

January 22, 2013 in Health Information

If you run or exercise hard for an hour or more you need to be hydrating and replenishing your electrolytes to ensure your body doesn’t break down or cramp up.

While many people rely and use store bought sports drinks, I prefer to avoid some of the excess sugar, artificial sweeteners and artificial colors and flavorings found in some of them.

Here’s a homemade version that will save you money, skip some of the stuff you don’t want and give you what your body needs:

4 cups of plain coconut water (you can use plain water but I like the extra potassium that coconut water provides)

1/4 cup of orange juice or pineapple juice (made fresh with your Power Juicer)

1/4 cup of maple syrup or honey

1/4 tsp of salt

Make sure to stir or shake well and carry 8 - 16oz. with you during your workouts in a reusable water bottle.

Five great reasons to juice!

January 16, 2013 in Juicing Tips

If you’ve let some time go by since the last time you used your Power Juicer, or if you’re entirely new to the concept, here are five good reasons to get on the juicing band wagon!

  1. Juicing is the easiest way to get in your daily nutritional requirements for fruits and vegetables.
  2. Juicing is good for digestive health and easy on the tummy.
  3. You are in total control of the ingredients that are going into your juice - if you buy store-bought varieties you may be taking in additives, extra sugar, dyes and other stuff you’d rather skip.
  4. Fresh juices provides natural energy boosts and makes you feel fantastic!
  5. It’s a delicious and nutritious treat!
